Jaline, a dancer from Aspiring Young Artists Dance Academy in Garden City, possesses all of these wonderful characteristics and more! Power Moves instructors kept a watch on Jaline and monitored her progression as well as her attitude towards her gymnastics training over several months. She began working with us in December 2013 and has accomplished skills such as front and back limbers and walk-overs and beautiful tuck, split, and straddle jumps. We look forward to her continued skill progression and success.

Power Moves Instructor, Xenia Nelson, qualifies for NYCPSAL State Championships

By CANDICE WALKER January 2014

You may have noticed her as the girl on Power Move’s promotional ads doing the side-scale and upside-down pose in the subway station. But don’t mistaken Power Move’s very own Xenia Nelson as just another gymnastics instructor. The high-school Junior (and dance major) took her chances with a last-minute decision to join the gymnastics team at LaGuardia Performing Arts High School. At just the drop of a dime, Nelson put a few of her everyday priorities aside, including working at Power Moves, and devoted 100% of her energy into getting back into her once familiar routine of training numerous hours. On February 9, 2014, the former gymnast of Power Moves’ owner Candice Walker, competed and was awarded a 3rd place spot out of 12 to represent NYC for the State Championship team. We wish her luck as she represents our city After all, “WE FLIP NYC”!

Meet Power Moves Gymnast of the Month, Samantha! The month of June has been a great month for progress for Power Moves gymnast Samanth Bourjourly of the Jules Legacy Dancers. Throughout the months of practice with Power Moves training, the gymnast has accomplished several skills. These skills include a perfect handstand, cartwheel, round-off , front limber, and back bend into bridge position. "Good job Sammy" is a phrase that is often heard during her group workouts. Samantha is now working towards a complete back-walkover and has already been working on her front-handspring. "Samantha is such a hard worker," says her instructor Stacey. We can definitely see that Samantha's progress defines the meaning of focus, concentration, and discipline, which are all great characteristics of growth for success in the sport of gymnastics!

Gymnast Sean Black,5, from Move Your Body Kidz Klub was chosen as their gymnast of the month for June because of his hard work and enthusiasm towards the sport of gymnastics. Sean has accomplished the skills of a handstand, cartwheel and round-off all by himself after working with his instructors for about 3 months. He is only steps away from reaching his goal of a pull-over on bars and never shows fear. He never gives up and always gives 100%. We excited to see what else he will accomplish within the next few months.

Special Feature: Power Moves Gymnast of the Month for May

By CANDICE WALKER June 1, 2013

As the month of May came to a close, Power Moves' instructors recognized 3-year old Amina Black working extremely hard at each and every gymnastics lesson with Power Moves at Springfield Gardens' Move Your Body Kidz Klub. Although the youngster is a just a beginner, in fact the youngest in her gymnastics class, her coaches see great potential in her future as a gymnast! Amina, is quiet and bashful, yet she posses the skills of strength, endurance, and a heightened sense of awareness as she has mastered her forward roll, mini-handstand, beginner jumps and always uses good judgement when learning new skills, asking for help  when unsure of how to do something. In addition to an improvement in gross motor skills, her accomplishments demonstrate her potential as a great athlete and individual overall.

Congratulations to our champion on her success! Great job Amina! Keep up the good work!

'Stephanie Jennings Not Afraid to 'wow' the Crowd'

By LAURA ALBANESE December 22 2012

Stephanie Jennings takes flight off the runway in the state tournament and with a roundoff onto the springboard sends her body soaring onto the vaulting table. The back handspring is the next part of the Yurchenko equation, but her hands fall too close to the front. When it's time for her dismount, her head crashes against the vault's rounded-off tip and her body crumples to the ground.
